In this short video produced by IFAW, we meet Ruffo, a blind dog that was found in the impoverished neighborhood of Invasores in Playa del Carmen, Mexico by IFAW's Erika Flores.
Ruffo's owners were very poor and had no means to take Ruffo to the vet. Ruffo was very hungry, covered with countless ticks, and could not see from both eyes. So Erika took Ruffo to Coco's Animal Welfare Clinic, an IFAW partner. Veterinarians determined that Ruffo's blindness was caused by a tick-transmitted disease. One eye was so severely damaged, it had to be enucleated.
But thanks to the amazing love and care by Erika and the team at Coco's Animal Welfare, Ruffo made a miraculous recovery and is now a happy, fluffy dog. The instant bond was so strong between Ruffo and Erika, that she decided to adopt Ruffo and make him part of her family.
